Today, the Water Directorate and the Al-Hasakah Canton Council declared emergency in Al-Hasakah, due to cutting off drinking water from the Alouk station, which is under the Turkish occupation mercenaries, after orders from an officer, calling on international and humanitarian organizations to intervene quickly to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.
The declaration of emergency came after a meeting by the Al-Hasakah Canton Council, in connection with cutting off drinking water coming to Al-Hasakah from the Alouk filtering station in the occupied Serêkaniyê.
The meeting was attended by the co-presidency Samar al-Abdullah and Khabat Suleiman, the co-chair of the Water Directorate in al-Hasakah, Suzdar Ahmed, and the two deputies of the Al-Hasakah Canton Council, Maha Shabo and Mahmoud Rasho, in addition to the heads of the councils in the sub-districts, the internal security forces, and members of the Supply and Agriculture Committee.
During the meeting, the attendees discussed the water crisis in the city of Hasakah, and emergency was declared in the city.
The emergency teams concerned with the water problem will provide water to the citizens through tanks through the communes.
The co-chair of the Water Directorate, Suzdar Ahmed, stated that the Alouk station has been out of service since April 12, after the burning of the electrical station in Darbasiyê, which feeds the Alouk station as a result of overloading and theft of electricity by mercenaries. Al-Hasakah is fixing the electrical malfunction, but the mercenaries do not operate the station completely.
Suzdar explained, “One of the Turkish occupation army officers ordered the operation of only 4 wells with one horizontal pump, which is unable to deliver water except to some occupied villages, and it is not sufficient to reach Al-Hasakah.
At the end of the meeting, the Canton Council and the Water Directorate appealed to humanitarian and international organizations to quickly intervene to find a solution to the water problem, which would lead to a humanitarian catastrophe for more than two million citizens, except for the displaced especially in light of the wide spike of the Corona virus and the increasing number of infections and deaths.
