Following the news of the arrest of two Kurdish farmers in a village in Van province and their intentional drop from a helicopter by the Turkish military, public opinion in social media reacted widely and Amnesty International called for an independent investigation.
This made the record of widespread human rights violations by Turkey against the Kurds once again to become the agenda. Instead of investigating, Turkey arrested four journalists who covered the case: Adnan Bilen, Jamil Ogur, Shahriban Abi, and Nazan Sala.
The police stated that if these journalists had not reported, we would have announced in a formal report that the two were also members of the PKK and they fell down while escaping from the helicopter!
In Turkey, even speaking Kurdish is prohibited by official law.
