Analysis of Domestic Violence Cases Reported in the Media Between January 1 and December 31, 2023.

The report of “Analysis of Domestic Violence Cases Reported in the Media Between January 1 and December 31, 2023” by the Independent Socio-Political Field Research Center of Turkey provides a detailed analysis of gender-based violence and child abuse in Turkey in 2023. This analysis, conducted during 2023, showed that 385 women were murdered and 310 women died in suspicious circumstances.
The report also documented 688 cases of violence or injury to women, 109 cases of threats, 46 cases of serious injury, 57 cases of harassment, 26 cases of sexual assault, and a very alarming number of 128 cases of sexual abuse against children.
The age distribution of victims shows a wide range in the adult age groups, and the age of many victims is not reported. The criminals are from different strata and a significant number of them were wives, ex-wives or friends.
Geographically, large cities such as İstanbul, İzmir, and Ankara reported the most cases of gender-based violence. In child abuse, İstanbul once again stood out next to Şanlıurfa (Riha) and Antalya. This report provides a clear view of the severity and complexity of the issue by describing the different forms of violence it faces.
